Neuroscience of Equity
January 30 - February 1, 2025
Pacific Lutheran University
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM each day
Explore the neuroscience of equity and the impact of inclusive environments
This three-day institute offers educators a deep dive into the neuroscience of equity, aiming to foster a space of growth, challenge, and healing. Participants will explore the complexities of bias, privilege, and positionality while developing a deeper understanding of their own experiences and how they impact their teaching practice. The institute will incorporate the Challenge Cycle learning structure to support participants in examining their mental models and identifying areas for growth and change agency.
We understand that learning is deeply intertwined with our emotions and social context, and that resistance or offense often surfaces when these are ignored. This institute encourages educators to engage with their own emotions, social contexts, and personal experiences, recognizing that this personal work is crucial for enabling us to participate in the systems change necessary for equity in education.
Delving into the neuroscience of equity can bring forth places of challenge, confusion, and growth. Our institute is committed to being a place to begin healing and uplifting. We create a safe space for educators to explore bias and systemic barriers to equity while also offering joy through connection and community.
